6 Drugstore Makeup Must Haves: Part 2
Here’s part 2 of my Drugstore makeup essentials. Part 1 HERE.
It’s not often I find products I love so much that I re-purchase, so when I do, I know it’s a must-have. In my professional makeup kit my products are all high-end, it’s what people want to see when I do their makeup and it’s what other makeup artists expect. But when it comes to my own face, I enjoy trying products from high end to high street. And more often than not it’s the high street products I tend to re-purchase. So here’s my list of 5 must haves that I recommend to definitely try out!
Sudocrem £2.99 Boots
Ok, so this isn’t makeup, but this is a must have in my beauty cabinet. It’s used by makeup artists, models and actresses alike to help heal blemishes. It’s antiseptic properties help heal acne as well as reduce redness and soothe irritated skin. It’s not great under makeup so I always use this at night, and guaranteed by the morning my spots have reduced in size and look and feel less angry.
Maybelline 24hour Colour Tattoo £4.99 Superdrug
Oh I love this product! I do really love the MAC Paint Pots, and the Maybelline 24 hour colour tattoo is the perfect dupe. It’s creamy formula sets quickly once applied, and once set Will. Not. Move! It’s great as a base for powder shadow products to go on top, or just use alone for an easy smokey eye. ‘Immortal Charcoal’ is one of my favourite colours and a colour I know is used on Cara Delevigne for her red carpet looks often.
Essie Nail Varnishes £7.99 Boots
I struggle to find a nail polish that doesn’t chip on my nails an hour after I’ve applied it. Until I tried the Essie range of varnishes. The lasting power is insane! I’ve applied their nail varnish and it’s been at least 3 days before they’ve started to chip. And for me, that is GOOD! As I’m always using my hands, dragging around my kit, it’s a good test to see if a varnish will last. But these really do. I love these more than OPI, China Glaze, even Dior and Chanel.
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water £3.33 Boots
For the longest time Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water dominated in this area, but at over £20 a bottle wasn’t the most affordable makeup remover. Come forward Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – the exact same for a fraction of the cost. I use this in the morning to refresh and soothe the face, and in the evening to remove my makeup. What is Micellar Water? Basicallymicelles in water act as oil-and-makeup-gobbling structures, which means you can have all the benefits of, say, a powerful makeup remover, without the residue and mess of an oil-based makeup remover. It’s like a magnet to makeup, so it removes more product than say a makeup remover wipe. It’s great for unblogging pores and removing excess oils without stripping the skin.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream £5.50 Boots
Liquid Lipsticks are still having their time in the lime light, and the most affordable and great quality is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. With so many shades you’ll be hard pressed to find a colour you don’t like – anything from soft pinks and peaches to more daring dark blues and purples. They are lightweight and creamy but set to a matte finish which don’t dry out the lips or feel ‘crumbly’ which some of these kinds of products do. And you don’t need to worry about touching these up as they last for HOURS!
Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eye Eraser Concealer £7.99 Superdrug
Leaving the best until last, this under eye concealer is everything you could ever want and more! This concealer with built in sponge tip applicator reduces the look of puffiness and shadows while fading the appearance of under-eye circles. It doesn’t crease into fine lines. The light shade helps highlight as well as conceal. It really does work. The only downfall to this product is that it only comes in two shades – light and medium. I use light as I want to highlight as well as conceal. It would be nice if Maybelline could cater for ladies with darker skin tones.
