We’ve made it through the Christmas/New Year festivities and entered January with a fresh outlook on healthy eating and for some… ‘dry’ January! Fantastic!
We are now in into 2018. It is at this point I thought I’d add a detox smoothie to the catalogue of delicious Smoothie recipes we have at Those London Chicks. A sort of “arm yourself” smoothie, that can be enjoyed at any point during the year as this smoothie is gorgeous. Perfect for when you feel like a bit of a cleanse,or dare I say it….for the morning after the night before!! I was inspired when I tried this recipe in a café. It was so scrumptious I had to ask what was in it and the exact amounts. This a super refreshing smoothie, especially for those of you who like to mix it up.This smoothie makes a change from the creamy smoothies with yogurt, milk or the non dairy alternatives ( almond, coconut or rice). It’s zingy and light!!
The surprise element to this recipe was the addition of Parsley the “hero” of the smoothie. Like many of you, I have used it to add to salads or for use as a garnish and only occasionally cooked with it. Little did I know, good old Parsley had so many health benefits, until I did some research! Parsley is a powerful detoxifier, it removes toxins from the body. It acts as a diuretic by flushing out the kidneys and it purifies the blood.
With the addition of Cucumber and Celery, this Smoothie is highly hydrating. Cucumber is full of vitamin B and C. Celery is a dynamic colon cleanser. Kale is great for strengthening the body, boosting the immune system and providing the all important antioxidents. Also full of fibre….another ingredient great for colon cleansing.
This smoothie is a really refreshing drink and perfect as a snack. You can add as much water to achieve the desired consistency.
Here is what you will need:
½ cup of Parsley
1 cup of Kale
3-4 inch of Cucumber
2 sticks of Celery
1 green Apple
Juice of ½ a Lime
Optional: A small cube of fresh Ginger grated (known for its detoxifying properties).
Chop the parsley, cucumber, celery and apple into cubes. Add all ingredients to the blender including the juice of half a lime. Optional: ginger, grate and also add. If using a nutribullet add water to the maxline otherwise use as much water as desired.
Give this Smoothie a try, it’s delicious!
