This Smoothie is full of green goodness and rather delicious to boot….
It is packed full of Spinach, (I prefer baby leaves, less stringy). This is ideal as a mid afternoon yum snack.
Well today I want to give a ‘nod’ to one of my fav’s…. good old Spinach. There are so many health benefits to this delicious green leaf, which of late has been superseded by the more ‘trendy’ green leaf Kale. Firstly, I would always recommend you buy organic spinach. Non Organic Spinach leaves tend to be sprayed heavily with pesticides that don’t come off with normal washing.
Spinach is available all year round but is in season now during the Spring (March – June). It is well known for its nutritional qualities and has always been regarded as a plant with remarkable abilities to restore energy, increase vitality and improve the quality of the blood. There are sound reasons why spinach would produce such results, primarily the fact that it is rich in Iron. Iron plays a central role in the function of red blood cells which help in transporting oxygen around the body, in energy production. The Iron, along with a wealth of other nutrients including vitamin E, vitamin B6, and magnesium, make Spinach and this Smoothie perfect for women who suffer from pain (cramps) during their Moon Cycle.
Everyone talks about the benefits of spinach in nourishing the eyes and building bones. What few know is that it also very good for digestion.
Another lesser known benefit of spinach is its role in skin care. The bounty of vitamins and minerals in Spinach can bring you quick relief from dry, itchy skin and lavish you with a radiant complexion. Regular consumption of fresh, organic spinach juice has been shown to improve skin health dramatically. Research studies also show that consuming spinach in juice form is actually the healthiest way to consume it. So combining raw Spinach with other vegetables and fruits into a Smoothie like this…… Perfect, not to mention delicious!!
