Hot Christmas Cinnamon Apple Recipe
Now this Hot Christmas Cinnamon Apple recipe is super simple yet incredibly effective and often complimented! It can be alcoholic or not; your choice, but tastes great either way!
Your glass size depends on how many people this will work for. The glasses in the pictures are vintage hot toddy glasses and I could make 4 without the alcohol.
1 pint Cloudy Apple juice
3 desert spoons of dark maple syrup
1 teaspoon of ground ginger
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pint of Apple dry cider
1 Apple – This is optional and mainly only if you prefer to have pieces in your drink like a sangria. Obviously soaking them in alcohol first is my prefernce. Then you get a hint of alcohol without having to add it to the main mixture.
Rum – Soak the apple piece in Rum as it gives an extra little kick without being overwhelming or making the head fuzzy before you have even begun the nibbles!
Basically I would do half and half, apple juice and cider. That way its neither too sweet nor too cidery. (I know that’s not a word but since spending time in the Southwest and having some of the best Mulled Ciders I’ve been introduced to Facey=Facebook Cidey=Cider and Twitty=Twitter) So I’m going to rock Cidery unashamedly.
So this is even more simple than making eggnog. Pop all the ingredients into a pan and pop on a low heat and let gradually heat through thoroughly. I actually sneaked in a couple of grinds of black pepper on my last batch to see if it make much difference. Got great feedback on it. Apparently it had a good edge and wasn’t too sweet. That was make sans alcohol.
So give it a go! It’s a nice a simple one you can make just before people arrive so the smells welcome them in from the cold. It can also be sampled during making and increase or decrease the elements to your palette.
