Rock Against Violence 2014LET THE MUSIC BE YOUR VOICE

Show support for the thousands of survivors of sexual and domestic violence. Solace Women’s Aid’s annual flagship event: Rock Against Violence, is back on
12th November at the O2 Academy Islington.

On average three women are killed by a partner or ex-partner every fortnight; domestic violence accounts for 29% of all violent crimes in the capital; and 14% of children and young people in London will have lived with domestic violence at some point in their childhood. As public understanding of the extent of abuse grows, Solace Women’s Aid is increasingly inundated with requests for help.

Last year Rock Against Violence raised a staggering £21,000.  Solace’s Counselling, Childcare and Rape Crisis services benefited directly from these funds. In celebration of 2015 being the charity’s 40th anniversary, the aim is to double this amount and raise £40,000 to help support all of the vital services Solace Women’s Aid offers.

Helping us rock against violence, is:

•    We Used To Make Things, an 8 piece North London rock band with big harmonies and impressive vocals;
•    Cable Street Collective who mix African influences with UK funky house dance beats;
•    Model Village, a folksy pop band from London and Cambridge;
•    Landshapes a unique band combining heavy bass lines, layered harmonies and stomping percussion.

The night will include a silent auction and fundraising raffle. All proceeds go directly to Solace Women’s Aid.

Ticket price starts at £15.00 and available at: Eventbrite, Ticket web and the O2 Islington Academy website.

Mary Mason, Chief Executive Officer at Solace Women’s Aid added: “Reports of domestic crime in London have increased in the last year by 18% and reports of rape have increased by over 30% so we’re receiving more calls than ever from women and children needing our support.  The additional funds we’re able to raise through events like Rock Against Violence really help us to answer more calls and help women and children recover from the horrors of domestic violence and sexual assault.”
