7 WAYS YOU CAN HOST A VIRTUAL PARTY WITH FRIENDS

Humans are inherently social beings but due to this imposed self-isolation and social distancing, we are forced to spend a good majority of our time at home. There are those who are lucky enough to be spending that time with their family but a good majority of us are forced to get through this pandemic alone with only the internet to keep us company and entertained.

Lucky for us, we live in an age of smartphones and computers. We might be alone but we have the entire world’s resources at our fingertips. Still, movies, TV shows, video games, and books are not enough to satiate our craving for human interaction. When loneliness hits, maybe it’s time to have a virtual party! Below are some ways to do it.

  1. ZOOM AND CONNECT

I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of things about Zoom. Company meetings are done on the platform, so are lectures, and yes even parties. The good thing is the app is free for use and it allows up to 100 people to have a virtual meet up for up to 40 minutes. It also offers unlimited chat for five people and fewer.

  1. COSTUME PARTY ON GROUP FACETIME

And then there is Group Facetime for iOS and Mac users. It’s perfect for a small group. For those that have an iPhone X or later models, as well as iPad Pro, they can use Animoji and Memoji on their Group Facetime. Or better yet, if you live near a cosplay shop, why not host a virtual costume party on Facetime?

  1. NETFLIX PARTY AND CHILL

Virtual parties aren’t just about people video conferencing while drinking wine. It’s also a great idea to host a Netflix party the same way you would a movie night with friends and family. Netflix Party is a Google Chrome extension that allows you to sync a show or movie with other people. It also includes a chat feature so you can share your commentaries without having to pause the video.

  1. GROUP WORKOUT

Planet Fitness recently launched United We Move. It is a collection of 20-minute workouts to keep people in shape while still in isolation. These videos are hosted on their Facebook page. Through Facebook, you can easily set up a watch party wherein you can invite friends to join the class with you.

  1. HOUSE PARTY AND PLAY GAMES

When it comes to playing virtual games with friends, House Party is certainly a good bet. Similar to Group Facetime and Zoom, House Party is a video conferencing service with an added twist – it has a lot of games. They have Heads Up: Act It Out, Trivia: Finish the Song Lyric, Quick Draw, and Chips and Guac.

  1. CREATE ART

If you’re keen on tapping on your artistic bone, you can pass your quarantine time by creating doodles and artwork with friends through several digital canvases like Aggie, Pixilart, and Drawesome.

  1. SOCIAL LISTENING

For music fans, you’re not forgotten. It’s also possible to listen to music with friends virtually using JQBX. Here, it’s possible to set up music-listening rooms, assign DJs, queue up music, and even rate other people’s music.
