Beetroot and Raw Organic Cacao Nibs Smoothie

Beetroot and Raw Organic Cacao Nibs Smoothie

Ok, so some of you may have given up chocolate for lent. But just a question for clarification, is that chocolate as in chocolate bars? Chocolate filled a lot of the time with lots of unhealthily fats and lots and lots of sugar?  Or Cacao the absolute original source? If the former is what you’ve given up then good for you!

I love these Raw Cacao Nibs from Nutriseed!

This Smoothie is the perfect ‘guilt free” is the perfect way of still enjoying that gorgeous bitter sweet somewhat nutty flavour without the nasties!! By that I mean all of processing and huge amounts of sugar! With Cacao nips you’ll be essentially consuming part of the Cacao Bean that has been harvested, fermented, dried, cleaned, roasted, cracked, then separated from it’s husk and broken into smaller pieces. This has been done and enjoyed since the Aztecs.

Raw Organic Cacao is full of Antioxidants and high in one in particular, Catechins (apparently containing more than green tea)! Cacao contain Potassium and Magnesium. It also provides trace amounts of Calcium, its D, E, and several B. I wouldn’t rely to heavily on Cacao for these nutritional attributes as the percentages are fairly low. Cacao is however known as a mood booster as helps to stimulate the brain into releasing “feel good” endorphins. It is worth saying Cacao does contain caffeine, a quarter of the amount found in coffee. If you are ok with some caffeine, then this Smoothie works really well as an “afternoon pick me up”.

This smoothie really delicious. It has well established flavour combinations like Beetroot and Cacao and Raspberry and Cacao, the raspberries help sweeten it. You can add less fluid if  you’d like it to be thicker in order to eat it with a spoon. As a dessert of sorts maybe?

Ingredients (serves two)

Two handfuls of Spinach
Half a medium Beetroot
1/2 a Frozen Banana (it’s makes smoothie creamier) but not essential.
A handful of Raspberries
4-5 Almonds
A heaped teaspoon of Raw Organic Cacao Nips
I cup of unsweetened Almond Milk

Peel the beetroot and chop into cubes; keep half. The other half you can freeze for another recipe. Add all your ingredients including the cup of Almond milk to your blender. Add water extra water if desired. If using a NutriBullet use the attachment that blasts nuts. Then blend! It really is that simple.

If you have truly given up any form of Chocolate even Cacao for lent, then save this recipe for when it’s over! This really is one your going to love!
