Chia Seed and Turmeric Smoothie
This smoothie exemplifies one of my favourite aspects of smoothies. It’s a perfect way of enjoying healthy ingredients that otherwise one wouldn’t consume individually, namely the Super Spice Turmeric
Turmeric is also the liver’s favorite spice and helps boost liver detox. It does this by assisting enzymes that actively flush out dietary carcinogens.
While Turmeric can be added to many dishes, it is sensitive to heat. Roughly 85% is destroyed when turmeric is boiled for more than 15 minutes. In addition, we can increase the bioavailability of turmeric in the body, by mixing with fats. One of the main reasons behind the low-availability of Curcumin in the body is due to its low solubility in water. Therefore you can mix Turmeric with oils such as Flaxseed Oil or Coconut Oil.
Coconut Oil, helps to regulate weight, promote energy and keep skin in top condition. It’s also good for digestion, especially fat soluble vitamins, great for the immune system, (a bonus at this time of year). The benefits are plenty, for more detailed info on Coconut Oil.
1 cup Coconut or Hemp milk
1/2 cup frozen Mango or Pineapple chunks
1 fresh Banana
1 tablespoon Coconut oil
1 teaspoon Turmeric
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Ginger
1 teaspoon Chia seeds
1 teaspoon Maca (optional)
Not only is this a delicious smoothie containing a good source of protein (chia seeds), keeping you fuller for longer. It’s brimming with antioxidants, and has a comforting thick texture with a sweetness that delivers a subtle Turmeric kick.
